Tax season is stressful for a lot of people–especially business owners. If you are a Monumetric publisher and living in the U.S. We want to alleviate some of your stress and clarify how your partnership impacts your taxes so you can file with confidence.

As a Publisher, you are an independent contractor of Monumetric. This means Monumetric does not withhold taxes from your payments. We recommend working with a tax professional who can answer your questions and determine the amount you should be paying in taxes.

To begin receiving payments from Monumetric you had to fill out your bank and tax information in the tax section of the Monumetric Console. If you completed that section a while ago, it’s a good idea to check that it’s updated with your current information and address. For U.S. citizens, the tax section contains the same information found on a W-9.

A 1099 form is a tax document used to report income received as an independent contractor. It helps the IRS track earnings that aren’t reported on a W-2.  At the beginning of each calendar year, our accounting department files 1099s for the previous year with the IRS. Only those who meet certain qualifications will receive 1099s.

1099 Filing Qualifications

  • A 1099 is only created if you have been paid more than $600 for the year, either through one site or a combination of multiple sites using the same EIN or SSN. We do not file a 1099 for any publisher who was paid less than $600 in a year because it is not required by the IRS.
  • We do not file a 1099 for corporations (S-corps or C-corps) because it is not required by the IRS.
  • 1099s are generated on a site-by-site basis for any site that was paid more than $600 per year. If you have multiple sites with Monumetric, you will receive an individual 1099 form for each site that was paid more than $600. If you have multiple sites with the same EIN, and one was paid less than $600, the sites will be combined into one 1099.

Don't Miss the Form

If your site(s) meets the 1099 qualifications, expect a 1099 to land in your email in the coming weeks.

It will be sent from a secure email called Track1099 that will contain a link. You must click the link to receive a copy of your 1099.

This email is usually sent by the last week of January. If you haven’t received the email, please check your junk or spam folder. If you don’t receive your 1099 a week or two into February, email success@monumetric.com so we can check your account and confirm a 1099 was filed for your site. We may need you to fill out a formal W-9 form for our accounting department to regenerate the 1099 for you.

Tax season doesn’t have to be overwhelming. Take charge by ensuring your Monumetric tax information is accurate and up to date in the Console, and watch for your 1099 if you meet the filing qualifications. Partnering with a tax professional can provide peace of mind and help you navigate the process with confidence. If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to your Publisher Success Team. We are here to help make tax season as smooth as possible so you can focus on growing your site!
